If you’re all playing on the same console you can just use party chat, of course. Team chat is your team of three in a match. Group chat is for your group, usually the people who are together in the hangout. Clicking the left analogue stick changes from the three chat options. Voice chat is easily accessible too, as a match is loading up. You don’t have to choose to play with someone in your crew on Xbox if you’re on PlayStation, etc. Once you become friends or joined a crew, Knockout City cross play is automatic. Likewise, if you play with friends, there are contracts currently out there that reward that with big XP hits. If you crew up you’ll get bonus XP currently. ![]() It’s worth noting that playing with friends and crew is rewarded. Can you climb the highest tower and show off? Why not give it a go. In the hub you can practice with all the special ball types, and generally lark around. Once you’ve done all of this you can join any of the online crew’s hubs to get ready. Tap the crew ID in and request to join, it’s really that simple. Like a KO City ID, there is also a Crew ID, which has a name and a hashtag, then a number. Searching for a friend’s crew is simple, and works the same way as finding a friend. If you start a crew, or want to join your friend’s crew, you can make sure you play together easily every time. It’s really that simple, but there’s a lot more you can do thanks to Knockout City cross play than just adding friends. Once you’ve got that, you can use the same social menu to search for them. You’ll need to get your friend to sent you their KO City ID so you can add them for Knockout City cross play via this method. This KO City ID is vital to playing cross playing in Knockout City. Doing so will bring up your name at the very top and also you KO City ID. Go to the main menu and hit triangle (PlayStation) or Y (Xbox), X (Switch) to bring up the social menu. Every play who plays the game has a unique ID, a bit like how Discord or Blizzard does things. If you’re in a team with someone on a different platform it’ll show the Knockout City logo, instead. For example, if you’re on PlayStation, it’ll show a PlayStation icon. You’ll notice when you play the game there is an icon next to your player banner. This means that if you have Xbox Game Pass, you can play Knockout City at no added cost on Xbox. It’s also in Game Pass thanks to the EA Play deal. Even yesterday I played hours of Knockout City on PS5 with part of our crew on Xbox. There has been no specific mention of either of these from the developer so far, but hopefully that will change now that they have the game itself out and can focus on other things like that perhaps.Knockout City is the latest game to have cross play with other consoles, and it’s a trend we’re massively in favour of. This would especially be important when the eventual Nintendo Switch version releases, so that you can play say on PC and then play while on the go on your Nintendo Switch across the same save.Īs of this time though, just like with cross-save, this is not a feature included in Torchlight III. While the ability to play with others isn’t included, people also likely would hope to see cross-progression made available in the game. However, that is unfortunately not the case at this time, as you are stuck playing with people only on your respective platforms. ![]() With the three platforms being available at launch and the current landscape of gaming, you might have thought cross-play would be implemented. For the initial release of Torchlight III, the game is coming to PS4, Xbox One, and PC, with a Nintendo Switch version coming at a later date that has not been revealed yet.
